How to get back to the US?

We used stand by tickets on Delta and we have last priority for boarding. We went to the Delta counter to check in for our flight tonight and we did not get on due to weight restrictions on the plane. Only paid customers could fly and we do not know how many days we have to stay. The agent said that maybe we can leave on Thursday and get back on Friday if they had seats. There has been a backlog of several employees that have priority ahead of us on the flights back to Atlanta on Delta. That is not possible for me stay a few more days since I have to work Thursday afternoon.
