I status matched to British Airways (BA) Silver Status from my British Midland International (BMI) status last month on June 12th. BA Silver gives me OneWorld Sapphire status as well (American Airlines Executive Platinum is OneWorld Emerald- the highest). BA Silvers allowed me to earn double miles ("Avios") when flying on British Airways, Iberia, and American Airlines and also free Business Class lounge access when flying on any OneWorld flight (in my case, the AA Admiral's Club in the US).
While I wish that I credited more flights to BMI before they left Star Alliance and gotten Gold Status transferred to BA... I'm happy with Silver since I don't fly through LAX, JFK, or ORD enough to get access/take advantage of The AA Flagship Lounge. I'm not sure if I will fly enough to requalify for next year... we will see if I get bored enough this year to do it.
